Can my wheels be powder coated?

Most alloy wheels can be powder coated, depending on their condition. Our team will inspect your wheels to make sure they are suitable for powder coating. If your wheels have significant damage or corrosion, they may need additional repairs before coating starts.

Rolling Rims offers a wide range of alloy wheel repair and refurbishment options, so if you are unsure what the right route is, you can contact us and we will talk it through with you.

Can you powder coat diamond cut alloy wheels?

Rolling Rims provides a full range of alloy wheel refurbishment services. We specialise in powder coating and diamond cutting, and we can advise which route makes the most sense for your set.

If a diamond cut wheel is no longer a good candidate for another cut, powder coating can be a smart alternative. The process applies a dry powder that is electrostatically charged and then cured in the oven, creating a durable finish that is often better suited to daily use.

If preserving the original machined appearance still matters, we can also talk you through whether a further diamond cutting refurbishment is still possible.

What are the benefits of powder coating?

Powder coating is an excellent way to give your wheels a long-lasting finish. By providing a protective layer that is more resistant to the elements, powder coating helps your wheels stand up better to daily use.

It is also a cost-effective alternative to some other cosmetic repair routes and gives you a wide range of colours and finishes to choose from, so you can tailor the final look to the style of the vehicle.

Can you colour match the damaged alloy?

Yes. We offer an alloy wheel colour matching service. Our team can colour match your damaged alloy to your existing wheels, helping the repaired wheel blend properly with the rest of the set.

We use quality paints and powders designed to last, so your newly refinished wheel keeps its colour and shine rather than standing out as an obvious repair.

Service Information

Powder coating is applied like traditional paint, but it dries on the surface instead of remaining liquid. Once the layer is heat treated, the colour flows out and forms a gel coating over the surface of the alloy wheel. To protect against UV damage, light scratches, pollution, and wash swirls, a lacquer is applied over the top.

FAQs

Answers to the questions customers usually ask before booking

Powder coating is a refurbishment process that strips the old finish from the wheel, applies a dry powder coating, and cures it in the oven for a durable finish. It is one of the most popular options when you want a strong, long-lasting result.

Our Powder Coating Process

At Rolling Rims, we understand the importance of alloy wheels for any vehicle. That is why we provide a variety of services to keep your wheels in top condition, from repairs through to full custom finishes.

Step 1 - Remove

If you have brought your vehicle to us, we jack it up, place it on axle stands, and remove the wheels. Once inside the workshop, the tyres and valves come off so the wheels are ready for stripping.

Step 2 - Strip

With the tyres and valves removed, we strip the old finish from the alloys using Rolling Rims' chemical process. This removes paint and grime right across the wheel, including awkward areas.

Step 3 - Prep

After soaking, the wheels are moved to the steam-cleaning bay. If the alloys are damaged, we sand them down, weld where needed, and media blast the surface before paint.

Step 4 - Paint

Once cleaned and prepped, the alloys go into our powder coating bay where the chosen finish is applied and cured. We then lacquer the wheels for extra protection on the road.

Step 5 - Assemble

Your alloys are then rebuilt with new valves and your tyres refitted. If your tyres are low on tread, this is a good time to replace them. We balance the wheels and make sure they are within spec before they go back on the vehicle. Note: TPMS stems will be reused if suitable. We will not refit tyres with excessive damage.
